Parental Placement Adoptions in Virginia
If you are an adoptive couple, with an identified birth mother, seeking a licensed child placing agency to complete your
What is a parental placement? In Virginia there is a unique adoption option known as PARENTAL PLACEMENT. A parental placement adoption occurs when the birth mother identifies the adoptive family and places her child directly in the custody of the adoptive family through an open adoption arrangement. This is sometimes referred to as a direct placement or private placement. The agency never takes legal or physical custody of the child. In the case of a newborn adoption, the baby can leave the hospital upon discharge with the adoptive parents.
Adoptive parent(s) still must have a home study prepared by a licensed child-placing agency before the court can accept the birth mother’s consent. The consent hearing can be scheduled once the baby is three days old.
This adoption format is also used in the case of grandparents or other close relative, such as aunt/uncle, adopting a child with the exception that no post placement visits are required. Learn more about Parental Placement adoptions, watch our on demand webinar (click here)

"Parental placement is an emotional experience. ABC Adoptions serviced us with professionalism, while sensitive to this emotional time. They evaluated the "whole picture", allowing us, further confidence this was the right move for our situation. The paperwork required was explained clearly and support immediate for questions as they arose. ABC Adoptions took the stress out of these requirements for us to focus on the emotional components of this adoption. Thank you!"
